- Before they take up their activity, self-employed people must have been employed for at least 12 months of the last 24 in, for example, a job requiring the payment of social security contributions. This applies irrespective of whether it was a single period of occupation in a certain job, or whether individual periods of employment are added up.
- If this period of employment liable to the payment of social security contributions cannot be adequately demonstrated, the drawing of unemployment benefit (for example) is also accepted as a precondition. The duration of the receipt of benefits is immaterial.
Submission of applications
The application for voluntary continued insurance in the unemployment insurance scheme must be submitted to the local employment agency at the place of residence within the first month of self-employment. It is necessary to demonstrate, for example on the basis of a trade registration document or a certificate from a tax consultant, that you are engaged in a self-employed activity which lasts at least 15 hours a week.
